Dr. Steven C. Maller, DDS, MS
Periodontist
Dr. Steven C. Maller brings an extensive background in
periodontics and dental education to the practice. A retired
full colonel from the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Maller has served as
a faculty member at the USAF Advanced Education in General
Dentistry (AEGD) Residency Program and as Director of Clinical
Periodontics at the USAF Periodontics Residency Program.
He
earned Diplomate status from the American Board of
Periodontology in 2000 and has published articles in
professional journals, mentored numerous thesis projects, and
lectured internationally on periodontal topics. After more
than 21 years of distinguished military service, Dr. Maller
retired in 2013 and joined Dr. William Stalker’s practice.

Dr. CHOL H. CHONG, DMD, MS
Dentist
Dr. Chol H. Chong is a periodontist at San Antonio Periodontics and Implants in Olmos Park, where he provides surgical and non-surgical periodontal and implant services with his longtime colleague and friend, Dr. Steven Maller.
Prior to his current clinical practice, he served over 22 years in the United States Air Force and retired in 2019. Colonel (retired) Chong was the Program Director and Chair of the USAF Periodontics Residency at JBSA-Lackland. He also served as the Periodontics Consultant to the Air Force Surgeon General, being responsible for the periodontics practice of the entire Air Force.
Dr. Chong received a BA in Biology from the University of Delaware, and a DMD from the Temple University School of Dentistry in Philadelphia. Dr. Chong was a Health Professionals Scholarship Program recipient, and received his commissioning through Commissioned Officer Training. After completing a residency in Advanced Education in General Dentistry (AEGD), he practiced general dentistry all across the globe, including deployments to the Middle East, Eastern Europe, and South America. He then went on to complete a three-year postdoctoral Periodontics program at Wilford Hall USAF Medical Center and the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2004. Dr. Chong is a Diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology and held a position of Professor at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences, and also served on the teaching faculty as a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio Dental School. He has trained hundreds of residents in his career as an educator, and currently serves as an Assistant Professor at the USAF Postgraduate Dental School at JBSA-Lackland. He has developed many novel surgical techniques, and lectured extensively at national and international conferences.
Dr. Chong is happily married to his wife, Elaine, since 2001, and has two adult children. He enjoys serving at his church and looks forward to going on a daily walk with his wife and their beloved dog, Mochi. As a hobby, he makes educational YouTube videos.
Dr. William H. Stalker, DDS, MS
Dentist
Dr. William H. Stalker’s career exemplifies excellence and
dedication in periodontics. After graduating from the U.S.
Military Academy at West Point in 1966, Dr. Stalker served in
Vietnam before pursuing his dental degree from the University
of Indiana, where he graduated third in his class in 1974.
A
retired U.S. Army colonel, Dr. Stalker completed advanced
residencies in general practice and periodontics, earning an
M.S. in Oral Biology from George Washington University. In
1983, he became a Diplomate of the American Board of
Periodontology and was later inducted into the American
College of Dentists. Since 1987, Dr. Stalker has provided
exceptional periodontal care in private practice while
contributing to the field through journal articles and
co-authoring a textbook.
Dr. Stalker took over Dr. Claude Naber’s periodontal practice in 1987 and has maintained that practice for 23 years. In 1983, Dr. Stalker became a diplomate of the American Board of Periodontology, and he was inducted into the American College of Dentists in 2003.
